TEACH NANO
For the creation of an interesting instruction syllabus that is oriented on the practical use of nanotechnology and suitable for the secondary school level, teachers only could rely on a limited range of adequate resources. Additionally there is an increased need for professional development and training by teachers in order to catch up with the rapid progression of the technological field.
With the course „TEACH-NANO“ the Innovation Society offers interested teachers (groups of 15-25 persons) the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the following areas:
- technical foundations of nanotechnology
- economic aspects of nanotechnology
- discussions about opportunities and risks
- teaching concepts tailored to the secondary school level
- experiments for teachers and students
Additionally, the participants will receive a package containing:
- documentation for teachers and students
- chemicals and teaching material for demonstration exercises
- media-CD
The course is built up according to the requirements of participants and contains up to three modules:
- fundamentals and perspectives of nanotechnology (1/2 day)
- experiments, concepts and materials for use in class (1/2 day)
- field-trip to a nanotechnology company or research institute in the region (1/2 day)

Feedback of participants in the evaluation of the May 24 and 28 course in St. Gallen (under the title "Small, smaller, nano - nanotechnology in schools and practice"):
„The course was very informative. The division of the blocks in listening, independent activity and group work was wisely chosen. A wealth of demonstration material was available and a lot of useful and informative documents were handed out."
„Good preconditions were: expertise paired with methodological-pedagogical competences. Course should absolutely be offered again."
„The change between theory and practical work was optimal from my point of view. We also got enough information material (also for our own courses!). Conclusion: A very successful course!"
„Very competent! Very close to practise! Very good!“
„The ‚nano’ field has interested me for some time. My expectations were to learn more about products, their manufacturing and opportunities/risks. My expectations have been fully met.“
„Well founded input for the nano topic and experiments suitable for secondary schools have sparked my interest in this field and will certainly help to implement it in my classes. Opportunities and risks of this future technology have been duly elaborated."
